I am Ombline Porthault, a naturopath and in charge of communication at Miel Factory. I am passionate about the world of well-being and natural health. Today, I am sharing with you a recipe for radiant skin!
Did you know that honey is widely used in cosmetics for its moisturizing and healing properties? Today, I suggest making a “Do It Yourself” scrub, made quickly with everyday products. You have all the ingredients in your kitchen to take care of your skin in a 100% natural way.
Say goodbye to plastic bottles and hello to savings!
Why is it important to exfoliate throughout the year?
Scrubbing is a routine we should apply more often. Generally, it is an exfoliant: it removes dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. Thus, doing a scrub before applying a moisturizing mask can be beneficial for better results. The mechanical friction of the ingredients on the skin immediately refines the texture.
It also makes your skin more elastic and toned. It improves the complexion, giving you a healthy glow.
It also helps to prepare the skin for hair removal, reducing the risk of ingrown hairs and facilitating regrowth.
Finally, scrubbing helps to prepare the skin for tanning, to achieve an even sun-kissed complexion.
Depending on the ingredients in the preparation, it will also have other beneficial effects on your skin, as you will see below.
What are the ingredients?
Some honey. For practical reasons, choose a creamy honey so you can apply it like a paste on your skin. If it is too liquid, it will be difficult to use the scrub. I recommend:
These honeys, incorporated into the scrub preparation, will have a moisturizing effect as they attract water to the skin surface, as well as healing and antibacterial properties. Not to mention their very pleasant scents. They are excellent for all skin types: problematic, combination to oily, sensitive, dry, normal… It’s a wonderful ingredient to use. Be sure to pay attention to the quality of the honey you use ;)
Some vegetable oil. I use sweet almond oil. A tip: choose organic, cold-pressed oil.
This vegetable oil is very interesting because it revitalizes and softens even delicate skin. It also dilutes the mixture to make it less sticky. You could use any vegetable oil for this scrub (argan, macadamia, jojoba, or even olive if you have nothing else, it works very well!).
Some sugar. Choose brown sugar for a body scrub, as it has larger grains than white sugar (which is better for a face scrub). It acts as the skin exfoliant. It gently removes dead cells and stimulates cell renewal.
You can add a few drops of essential oil for an enchanting scent. I recommend ylang-ylang or mandarin essential oil, for example.
How to prepare the honey scrub?
Ingredients:
- 3 teaspoons of honey
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil
- Pour the ingredients into a bowl
- Mix everything to obtain a homogeneous substance
- Add essential oils if you wish
- The scrub is ready to use
You can keep it for several months, provided you store it away from heat and light, for example in a cupboard.
How to apply the honey scrub?
Make circular motions on your skin, gently. You don’t need to rub hard; the scrub won’t be more effective and it could irritate your skin.
However, don’t hesitate to focus on rougher areas such as heels, knees…
Once the scrub is done, rinse with lukewarm water then moisturize your skin with a cream or vegetable oil.
Regarding frequency, it really depends on your skin type. Don’t overdo it, especially for sensitive skin, where I would recommend doing it once every two weeks, no more.
One last tip: the beauty of your skin depends on the health of your gut. It is essential to have a healthy and balanced diet to have beautiful skin.
