Harvesting lychee honey
Our partner beekeeper is Jean Walter, a Frenchman with agronomic training, went to live in Madagascar 25 years ago and in 2015 installed more than 350 hives a few kilometers from Manaka, in guaranteed pesticide-free areas. Jean Walter's production is exceptionally pure.
The species of bee found in this region is the Apis Mellifera Unicolor. It is endemic to Malagasy soil, robust, not very aggressive and relatively spared from the diseases found elsewhere.
A fragrant and extra-creamy honey
The flavor of Litchi honey is very fragrant and fruity with hints of rose. Its robe is clear and its texture creamy.
Its tropical scents make us travel in a universe of flavors very different from the honeys of our regions. This is a real discovery!

I ducked into this shop to escape the rain and ended up absolutely loving Clementine, the salesperson at Miele Factory. She was so friendly and gave such a thoughtful, gentle introduction while showing me all the amazing honey from around the world. In the end, she helped me pick out lychee and hazelnut honey from Réunion Island, plus some handmade beeswax candles that my family absolutely loved. The honey didn’t last long at all, and we’ll definitely be coming back!
