Propolis, a miracle of nature
What is propolis?
Propolis is not only a thick but also a resinous substance. It is a substance that the workers collect from conifers and other tree species. They use it to coat the interior of the hive with a thin layer and to strengthen the combs. In larger quantities, propolis is used to seal cracks and reduce the size of the hive entrance. If an insect or small animal enters the hive and dies, they embalm it with this propolis to prevent its decomposition.
The antibacterial and antifungal properties of propolis have been known for a very long time since the Egyptian priests were already using it. Hippocrates already recommended it for ulcers and wounds.
Nowadays, propolis is mainly used in North America and Eastern Europe in traditional medicine. It is often combined with honey, royal jelly or pollen to offer a cocktail of the hive with multiple benefits.
It is marketed in the form of a mother tincture or in the form of raw propolis to be chewed or powdered propolis to be chosen according to the required use.
Raw propolis for chewing
How to use the Organic Propolis Tincture (liquid propolis)?
Use the propolis mother tincture internally, at a rate of 1 to 4 pipettes per day. Dilute in a glass of water, juice, sugar or honey.
How to use raw propolis to chew?
This propolis has been harvested by the beekeeper and has not been processed.
Consume 2 to 3 pieces per day. Cut a small piece and chew it slowly at first to form a homogeneous paste, then chew more and more intensely to feel the action of the propolis. Throw the piece away as soon as it disintegrates.
Bee pollen, an extra-complete food
Pollen is the most nutrient-complete food from the hive, both for bees and for us humans. And yes! Pollen is the main food of these little winged creatures that want to do us good.
The composition of pollen
The composition of pollen varies according to the species of flower and the season. It has different tastes depending on the variety. It is composed of
- Amino acids that are easy to assimilate. Pollen is richer in protein than meat or eggs
- fatty acids
- vitamins
- enzymes, ferments and yeasts
- mineral salts, trace elements
- natural antibiotic factors
- polyphenols that protect the bloodstream
- phytosterols that reduce the absorption of cholesterol.
The benefits of bee pollen
Bee pollen is an important ally when it comes to taking care of your health:
- It is a tonic and stimulant
- It is recommended to keep your figure
- It is a gonadotroph: it acts on the human sexual glands, which explains its action on reproduction, vigour and growth.
- It is known for its beneficial action on the prostate.
- It plays an interesting role in the balance of the intestinal flora: it contains probiotics.
- It has a positive impact on hair and nail growth.
Can you eat bee pollen if you are allergic?
Pollen allergies are caused by pollen carried by the wind from plants with light pollen, whereas bee pollen comes from different plant species whose pollen is too heavy to travel through the air. These plants need bees to reproduce.
People who are allergic to pollen are therefore fully able to consume bee pollen.
Difference between dry and fresh pollen
Fresh pollen is frozen. Pollen tolerates freezing very well and this allows it to keep all its benefits, especially its lactic ferments which are beneficial for the intestinal flora.
Dry pollen is dehydrated and can be stored at room temperature, in a dry place. Most of its substances are destroyed as they cannot withstand heat, especially the lactic ferments.
